Lazy K Ranch Mitigation Preserve

The property includes existing and restorable vernal pools and riparian habitat within a critical habitat unit and core recovery area. Special-status species include CA tiger salamander, vernal pool fairy shrimp, San Joaquin kit fox and succulent owl’s clover.

Bisected by the Chowchilla River in the southern San Joaquin Valley, Merced and Madera Counties

Size: 1,556 acres

Outcome:
A conservation easement with California Rangeland Trust was recorded over a 446-acre portion of the Ranch in 2016  to provide off-site wetland and habitat mitigation for the California High Speed Rail project.  Additional mitigation projects on the Ranch are anticipated in coming years.
